Dr Charles West, Parliamentary Candidate for Shrewsbury and Atcham was part of a team of Liberal Democrats who joined tens of thousands marching through the streets of London today. Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg and Simon Hughes MP lead the Liberal Democrat delegation pressing for strong government action to reduce the effects of global warming.

Dr West said "It was good to see Shropshire so well represented. As well as a team from the liberal Democrats there were representatives from the churches in Shrewsbury and Telford. The Liberal Democrats are the only major party committed to firm action on climate change. We are already seeing the effects of climate change, with some parts of the world, including parts of Britain, suffering from severe flooding, and other parts of the world devastated by drought. We must grasp the opportunities represented by the Copenhagen conference, and we are demanding that our politicians go to the conference determined to succeed.

"It was good to see the Young Liberals taking such a strong lead on this concern, and well they might. If we fail them it is our children and grandchildren who will pay the price for our neglect."
