Bernie Bentick
Shropshire Council & Shrewsbury Town Councillor for Meole
Bernie was born, grew up and was educated in Liverpool, gaining a degree in Medicine in 1978. He is married and has 4 children who have careers in medicine, education and finance. His hobbies and interests include gardening, cycling and golf.
Bernie had a 40 year career in Women’s Health, with particular expertise in Reproductive Medicine and IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation), working in Liverpool, Watford, London and Leicester before his appointment as Consultant in Shrewsbury and Telford in 1991, where he began and developed the Shropshire Fertility and IVF Service. By the time of his retirement in 2018, the local Fertility Service had helped 12,000 couples to have over 8,000 babies.
During the Pandemic, Bernie helped the Meole community, posting letters and parcels and delivering shopping for those who were shielding. He arranged for the ‘Sewing for Shropshire’ Volunteer Group to make fabric face-masks for the senior citizens of Meole and he delivered them.
Bernie is currently campaigning on local Health and Social Care Services, Active Travel, Public Transport, Youth facilities and activities, water pollution and climate change. He has a long term commitment to help improve communities in Meole, Shrewsbury and Shropshire.
He campaigned in Meole during 2020 and 2021 on local traffic, active travel and health issues before being elected as Shrewsbury Town and Shropshire Council Councillor for Meole Division (Ward) in May 2021.
He is on the Town Council Climate Change and Recreation and Leisure Committees and also the Youth Services Working Group. In Shropshire Council, he is in the Public Transport Working Group.
