House of Commons showing some decency

Editor,
How good it was to see the House of Commons showing some decency yesterday.

It was good to see that Nick Clegg's championing of the cause of the Gurkhas was able to unite MPs of all parties who acknowledged that Britain owes a debt to these men who have served this country so well in the past and who were being treated shamefully by the government.

After all the scandal and sleaze about MPs expenses it is encouraging to hear of Joanna Lumley's "pride in our country, pride in the democratic system and pride in our parliament."

It is important to note that this move for decency was led by the leader of a minority party. One can make a difference even in a minority party.
