Dr Charles West, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Shrewsbury and Atcham said "We would like to see a Youth Travel Discount Card as well, that would enable our young people to get discounts on the buses. We have done a feasibility study and would have already run a pilot study. This idea was blocked by the Conservatives in Shropshire. It is excellent to have direct 'through-trains' from Shrewsbury to London and I welcomed the Wrexham Shropshire and Marylebone service that was introduced a year ago, but again we need to do more. Liberal Democrats would invest in the railways with more electrification and investment in more high-speed lines."

Visiting Shropshire this week to speak to local Liberal Democrats, Julia Goldsworthy, Liberal Democrat Local Government spokesman said "Local Government plays a vital role in co-ordinating public transport. I am delighted to see the extension to the use of senior bus passes that has been made possible by the Shropshire Unitary Council."
