The NHS needs Friends Now

Dr Charles West, local Liberal Democrat campaigner has hit out at Labour and Conservative parties for their half-hearted support of the NHS.

Dr West said "Both Gordon Brown and David Cameron have spoken out in favour of the NHS after a Conservative MEP joined right-wing Americans in criticising the NHS. It is unfortunate that both Labour and Conservative Governments have privatised parts of the NHS and both are determined to privatise even more. Shropshire County PCT has already taken part in a contract to buy private X-ray services. That contract was scrapped after only a few months and wasted millions of pounds. The USA spends more than twice as much per person on healthcare as the UK but there are still 50 million US citizens with no healthcare insurance. Yet it is the private model that Labour and Conservatives are pushing. The NHS needs real Friends, not politicians who will sell bits of it off to make profits for private companies."

Liberal Democrat Policies would give more control over Health spending to Local communities, and has specific safeguards against privatisation that damages and destabilises local NHS services.
